The world is changing fast, but the more things change, the more they seem to stay the same.

Many of us have been Magento developers for over a decade. We know the architecture, the best practices, and how everything fits together. But Claude Code can now do all of that too.

So now that AI is upon us... what is our role? What should we actually be doing? Are we even useful anymore?

Everything has changed, but your experience matters now more than ever. We may not be writing code anymore, but we're all being promoted to a bigger role: the conductor. Our judgment of what to build, and how to build it, is still in our hands.

We are all becoming systems engineers. And a big part of this new role is understanding how to best harness AI to deliver better outcomes for merchants.

You are the workflow right now

Requirements come in, and we've been relegated to copy and paste. We tap Enter to accept whatever defaults Claude Code suggests are best for our implementation. Occasionally we push back, pick another option, and give feedback.

Is this what we've become? A "meat proxy"? I think we're much more useful than that.

The problem is that we're still working in the old paradigm of just "getting tickets done for clients". That gets us paid the same (or less) to meet ever-growing client demands. And it leads to a race to the bottom: automated coding factories that remove us from the equation completely, churning out code nobody has verified, tested, or confirmed is correct. An AI slop machine.

But there is another way.

The new path forward

What if, rather than accepting Claude Code's responses as-is, we steered the ship toward building features to our standards?

What if we orchestrated custom workflows that get the AI to work the way we actually enjoy working?

What if we could meet our clients' ever-growing demands by covering our features with every type of automated test available, so we predictably create reliable software we're proud of?

This is all possible by building a custom development workflow with AI. By the end of this course, you'll be shipping more than your team ever has, building wildly complex features faster than your clients expect, and keeping up with demand so you stay competitive in your niche.

The models don't understand Magento's intricacies

Just because AI knows how to code something doesn't make it correct. Most of us have been pulled into "rescue projects" over the years: client sites with an off-the-shelf theme and 50+ modules that all seem to conflict with each other. It's a garbled mess, and it's exactly what you wind up with when you hand all of your judgment over to AI.

Here's a simple example: I had AI build a custom engraving option for products. Claude Code didn't ask me a single question; it just started plowing through the request and writing code. When I tested the finished feature, it looked like it worked perfectly. But once I dug in... it was a different story.

Coupons discounted the engraving fee, and a staff member taking orders over the phone couldn't see the engraving field in the admin.

A client would have looked at this feature and approved it. But shipping something without thinking through the permutations and edge cases -- the way a real solutions architect would -- is what sinks projects and loses clients. It's also why merchants won't be able to use AI to build everything for them anytime soon.

They need your expertise. They need your experience.

Steps to predictability

That's just one small example. Step back and look at the bigger picture, and you need much more than a way to catch architecture problems early. You need a way to orchestrate the entire software development lifecycle for every Magento feature request that comes your way.

That's where a workflow comes in. Instead of letting AI decide both what it's building and how to build it, you take back control with a predictable set of steps every task runs through. A workflow puts what you know into each stage of the lifecycle, and makes your Magento expertise even more valuable.

Asking clarifying questions. Comparing the feature set against your current codebase and architecture. Tearing the plan apart to find its weak spots and gaps. Building every feature test-first. Running every change through security checks, review gates, and testing tools. Together, those steps define your process, and they turn your agency into a high-quality, consistent development machine.

And since the tools change all the time, the workflow has to be able to change too. Magento doesn't change often, but these AI tools do. Knowing which parts of your workflow last and which parts can be swapped out later, and being able to swap them quickly, is something not many teams know how to do.

Who is this course for?

  • Senior Magento developers who use Claude Code daily and are tired of being the workflow.
  • Lean Magento teams that are no longer hiring junior devs, and instead rely on their senior developers' expertise to deliver more, faster.
  • Agencies that need fully architected specs for clients, and features that are tested and shippable at a higher level of quality than ever before.

This isn't a course for developers who don't work with AI yet, or don't understand Magento. It's for real Magento developers who build complex features on the framework and need a predictable process for this new age of development.

Frequently asked questions

Won't this be outdated when the next AI model gets way smarter?

Some of it will, and it's designed for exactly that. A smarter AI doesn't mean you no longer need a workflow. Anthropic's own Claude Code team, using the best models available, more than doubled their merged pull requests from June to September 2026 -- while the share that had to be reverted fell by over 40%. They did it with layers of automated review and risk-based gates, not by dropping their process. The steps and rules you define are built to outlast model updates. Parts of each step will get swapped out over time, and the workflow is designed so you can swap in new tools and features easily, without re-architecting the whole thing.

Are LLM costs a concern?

Individuals and agencies both have access to Claude Code subscriptions, which typically come with very generous limits. There are also ways to make each step of your workflow more token-efficient, and we'll cover them in the course. I've personally never hit my limits, other than the very occasional 5-hour limit when working on multiple features across multiple projects at the same time.

Will it work on my codebase?

Magento is notoriously complex, and that's exactly what this course is built for. The framework is vast, but it's also predictable. You should have no problem using what you learn to build workflows for real stores with third-party extensions, custom home-grown extensions, Hyvä/Luma/headless, or anything else that crops up. The steps we define are timeless to software development, and they'll adapt to your store.
